Ice Inspired Art Projects For Kids
Since many of us are staying home today due to the ice storm, we thought we’d put together some fun “ice” inspired crafts for kids! We have something for every age group.
For some additional winter inspired projects to try, check out our Arctic Animals Blog Post here! Also, check out the “Frozen Spider Egg” project on our Halloween Blog here - this can be done with any plastic animal. And, when all else fails, make SLIME! See our clear “see through” slime recipe on our Ultimate Slime Guide for some Frozen/Ice inspired slime.
Frozen Watercolor/Crayon Resist
What You’ll Need:
Cup of water
Paintbrush
Watercolor paper - We love this paper by Canson
Instructions:
Draw your ice crystals using the white oil pastels or crayons. You won’t see it as you are drawing with white on white!
Paint over your white marks with watercolor paints to reveal your design. The watercolor paints will resist the oil pastel/crayon marks. Use lots of “cool colors” like purples, greens and blues.
Draw Ice Skaters
What You’ll Need:
Black marker
Pencil
Eraser
Instructions:
Use the side of a pencil to shade in an ice skating rink.
Use an eraser to etch ice skating marks into your pencil shading.
Use a black marker to draw in ice skaters, highlight ice skating lines and draw trees/figures in the background.
Sculpt An Igloo
What You’ll Need:
Scrap Paper
Aluminum Foil
Paintbrush
Glitter - we also recommend using a craft tray like this one to help contain the mess
Instructions:
Wrinkle a piece of scrap paper up into a ball.
Cover your ball with a piece of aluminum foil leaving an opening for your igloo’s “entrance.”
Paint the outside of your igloo with white paint. Allow to dry.
Apply glue all over your igloo using a paintbrush. Sprinkle glitter all over the wet glue.
Sparkly Icicles
What You’ll Need:
Construction Paper - try to pick a “cool” color like blue, green or purple
Quick Drying Paint Sticks - we like Kwik Stix
Glitter - we also recommend using a craft tray to contain the mess!
Instructions:
Sketch a winter landscape on construction paper using paint sticks.
Squeeze liquid glue across the top. Hold your paper vertically to allow the glue to trip making the shape of icicles.
Sprinkle glitter on your wet glue. Shake any excess glitter back onto your tray.
Paint with “Ice Bricks”
What You’ll Need:
Construction paper
Plastic brick blocks - bonus points if you have some “ice” colored ones!
Instructions:
Dip legos into washable paint.
Stamp legos onto a piece of paper creating marks on your paper.
